Is Affiliate Marketing For You?
One of the easiest ways to begin earning extra money online is through affiliate marketing. But wait you say, isn’t it nearly impossible to make any money online these days because everyone has already jumped on that? It’s true this is not a get rich quick scheme. To be honest, if you are looking for a get rich quick scheme there are thousands of those out there just waiting to separate you from your hard-earned cash. On the other hand, if you are willing to put in some work and stick with it, affiliate marketing is still a viable way to make money online. So let’s answer the question, is affiliate marketing for you?
Affiliate marketing is a great way to start in making money online. Many people want a way to make some extra money to help with daily living expenses, or they want something that will eventually allow them to leave the 9 to 5 rat race and let them spend time with family. That’s what affiliate marketing may be able to do for you. For more about affiliate marketing you can read my post on Affiliate Marketing 101. Basically, affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing partnership between the merchant, who has something to sell, and the affiliate, who brings buyers to the seller. As an affiliate marketer you don’t have any of the up front expenses of creating a product, marketing the product, setting up a way to get paid, bookkeeping, customer support, and on and on. You can get into affiliate marketing for a reasonable up front outlay of cash. Yes, this is not going to be free to get into, but you can set up your website and start making money with a small investment.
But, do you have what it takes to be an affiliate marketer? Is affiliate marketing for you? Before you make that decision you need to decide if you truly have a desire to succeed at this and run it like a business. You also need to decide what interests you have that you could market products for in that niche. Think of a niche as an area you are interested in. If you love golf, you could market products in the golf niche. If you are someone into health and fitness you could market products in the health and fitness niche. We all have interests or hobbies that someone has already built a product around that you can market. If you are interested in or excited about the niche you choose it becomes much easier to bring that enthusiasm to your marketing.
Too many online business prospectors lose out because they become impatient. They don’t take the time to determine their interests and strengths. Instead, they go at affiliate marketing in a haphazard manner and then wonder why they can’t make any money. The most important thing in affiliate marketing is a will to succeed. Never giving up and always learning and trying new things when something doesn’t work are qualities that will help you succeed and prosper in affiliate marketing. You have to learn the techniques of marketing a particular product or service.
You have to be able to market your website where your affiliate offers are located effectively. Traffic to your website is of paramount importance to your success. If you put up a website but no one sees it, it really doesn’t matter how well-designed or user-friendly the site is. You have got to get people to visit your site by getting a good ranking on the search engines or using other marketing methods like social media. However you get visitors to your website, without them, you won’t make money as an affiliate marketer.
Getting visitors to your website does take some time. This is where many aspiring affiliate marketers give up. They throw up a website with a few ads on it and wait for the bucks to start rolling in. And they wait and then wait some more. Then when the money doesn’t roll in they pack it up and tell themselves they knew this wouldn’t work. Those people aren’t going to make it in affiliate marketing because they don’t realize that this isn’t something you are going to get rich with by next week. You start out slowly, and you build a customer base. You test your site and your ads. You add content related to the products you are promoting, so you can rank in the search engines. But if you follow a proven formula you can succeed like others have before you. The real key to being successful with affiliate marketing is to develop a good content-based website and weave your affiliate links into all your content. You have to provide your prospects with good, quality content to keep them coming back to your site. So, is affiliate marketing for you?
Setting Yourself Up For Success
As competition increases you ways to distinguish yourself from the rest of the affiliate marketers out there. Many of your competitors are promoting the same program you chose to promote. There are a few things you can do to stand out from the competition and succeed in affiliate marketing.
The very first tip is to make sure you have your own website or blog. It is essential for you to have your own website or blog for marketing affiliate products. Think about your interests and then do some keyword research. Check out the competition in your chosen niche by using the free tool from Google for keyword research, or other free tools. Come up with a unique selling point that other people haven’t considered. Once you have those in place you will need to purchase your domain name. Try to come up with something catchy related to your niche.
Potential customers primarily go to websites in order to search for information or get help with a problem. As an affiliate marketer it’s your job to offer them a solution to those problems, or information on a product that they are looking for. Your purpose is to attract people to your website who are already interested in the information or solutions you are offering. These people are more likely to respond to your ads and make a purchase than people just randomly surfing the web.
It’s also important to do some research and find some products that are only available through your website. If you can’t do that at least come up with a unique way to present them that other marketers aren’t doing. Design your own display or text ad that presents the product uniquely. You’ll always have a competitive advantage if you can find a product only you are offering, or you present an affiliate product in a way no one else is doing.
Finally, you always want to build strong relationships with your customers. Try the product you are marketing for yourself. If you can’t do that at least do your research on the product, so you have ready answers should someone ask a question about the product. Being able to do an unbiased review on your website for a product you have tried yourself is a great way to convince potential customers the product is worth their hard-earned money. You could also present a tutorial on using the product on your website based on your experience using it. Be totally honest about the product. If the product has things that aren’t perfect, say so. This will build credibility with potential customers.
Affiliate marketing could possibly become a great way for you to earn some part-time or even full time income. It won’t happen overnight. Like everything else in life, you’re going to have to put a lot of hard work into it. But the payoff can be enormous if you stay with it and don’t give up.
